About Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a department of science in general medicine. In 1796 the Homeopathic School of Medicine was founded by Dr Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician who ranks among the greatest scientific pioneers. Hahnemann observed that substances that are poisonous or inert in their crude or natural state can be used to cure that which they can cause. Hence the establishment of the basic principle of homeopathy: like cures like.

The selection of the correct homeopathic remedy is the most important part of the process. In order to do this, understanding the make up of the individual – not only physically but mentally and emotionally – is of vital importance. This information is ascertained during the homeopathic consultation. The substances from which remedies are obtained are derived from animal, vegetable and mineral sources. It is not the substance that produces the curative effect, however, but the inherent energy that is released from the substance when it is homeopathically prepared by pharmacists trained in this speciality.

The purpose of the homeopathic remedy is to stimulate the natural healing potential of the body. Homeopathic remedies are prepared in tablet, pillule, granule or liquid form. They are simple to take: under the tongue, when the mouth is clean. The patient is discouraged from taking any other strong stimulants, particularly coffee, mint or alcohol while receiving homeopathic treatment.
